Odoo 20: Release Date, Features and AI – What We Know So Far
Odoo 20 will be unveiled in September 2026 – and it is more than a routine annual update. The new version makes AI a permanent part of everyday work and simplifies numerous processes that used to be manual. In this post we summarise what is known about Odoo 20 so far: the release date, the most important features and what all this means in practice for small and medium-sized businesses.
Status: June 14, 2026. One important caveat up front: Odoo only confirms the official, complete feature set at launch. The points below are based on the roadmap presented in April 2026, partner assessments and the clear development direction of recent versions. Odoo itself jokingly describes the roadmap as a "list of things we might do" – so details may still change.
When will Odoo 20 be released?
Odoo 20 will be presented at Odoo Experience 2026, held from September 24–26, 2026 at Brussels Expo. General availability typically follows two to four weeks after the conference, and the first stable, production-ready patch usually arrives in October or November 2026.
In practical terms: if you want to run Odoo 20 in production, plan around the first stable patch – not launch day.
What is new in Odoo 20?
The central change in Odoo 20 is that AI is no longer a standalone feature but an assistance layer working in the background across all modules. Rather than simply delivering more functionality, Odoo 20 aims to actively simplify daily work – smarter and simpler instead of merely more powerful.
AI becomes genuinely useful in everyday work
AI is moving into areas such as accounting, the website builder, helpdesk and even the creation and updating of records. A vivid example is "accounting for non-accountants": an AI agent can run treasury and financing checks, summarise findings and flag anomalies – without requiring deep accounting knowledge. With "AI Create/Update", records can be searched, reassigned or created using natural language – for example, handing over all leads from one salesperson to another with a single instruction.
Accounting, POS and website
In accounting, payments directly from Odoo are a practical highlight: payment batches can be sent to the bank with a signature or exported as SEPA XML. In Point of Sale, hardware setup becomes much simpler – browser-based access to local devices via Chromium eliminates certificate imports, plus automatic combos and new payment providers. Particularly interesting for marketing and web teams: faster load times, microdata (JSON-LD), better redirect management, fixes for SEO topics such as no-index, sitemap and canonical URLs, and a redesigned blog interface.
Mobile, payroll and planning
The mobile interface is being redesigned from the ground up and optimised for touch and small screens – real added value for field service, warehouse and sales teams. Payroll gets a new dashboard with direct actions and will no longer use separate "work entries", working directly from time-off data instead. Field Service moves into a unified Planning module, and Timesheets suggest time entries via an AI assistant based on actual activity.
New industry solutions
Odoo 20 ships with dedicated solutions for new industries, including Hotel+ (occupancy and revenue management), construction (quotes with trades, WBS planning, progress-based invoicing) and recruitment. Additional verticals include car repair shops, care homes and pet care.
Odoo 19 vs. Odoo 20 – what is the difference?
While Odoo 19 mainly delivered more features, performance and UI improvements, Odoo 20 shifts the focus to simplification and automation. Put simply: Odoo 19 made the system more powerful, Odoo 20 makes it more intelligent and easier to use. Instead of a single "wow" feature, one theme runs through the entire roadmap – streamlining processes, embedding AI where the work happens, and connecting all apps more tightly.
Should SMBs upgrade now or wait?
The right time to upgrade to Odoo 20 is not launch day but, at the earliest, the first stable patch in October or November 2026. Experienced partners recommend migrating around four to eight weeks after that patch – which puts the practical upgrade window for most companies between November 2026 and January 2027.
If you are currently planning a new implementation that goes live before September 2026, the mature Odoo 19 is a safe choice, with the upgrade to version 20 scheduled for early 2027. If your project only starts in autumn, you can adopt Odoo 20 directly. Important for existing customers with customisations: standard modules migrate smoothly, but custom developments and third-party modules must be checked individually for compatibility and ported where necessary. If you are still on Odoo 16, 17 or 18, weigh a direct jump to version 20 carefully – the route via Odoo 19 is usually safer.
How do you prepare for Odoo 20?
- Inventory your customisations and modules: Document all custom fields, automated actions, reports and third-party modules. This overview is the basis for a realistic effort estimate.
- Clean up data and configuration: An upgrade is the ideal moment to remove unused automations, duplicate categories and legacy data. A lean instance migrates faster and more safely.
- Plan the upgrade path early: Talk to your Odoo partner about timeline, costs and risks before September – instead of scrambling after the announcement.
- Watch the keynote: The official presentation at Odoo Experience 2026 confirms the final feature set. Final decisions should only be made after that.
