The US CLOUD Act
US providers must hand over data to US authorities on request – regardless of whether the server is in Frankfurt or Virginia. What matters is the provider's corporate headquarters, not the storage location.

What does the US CLOUD Act mean for our company data?
US providers can be legally compelled to hand over data to US authorities – even if that data is stored in a European data center. What matters is the provider's headquarters, not the server location. With European providers and sovereign hosting, this question simply doesn't arise.
Isn't on-premises much more expensive than the cloud?
Not necessarily. On-premises means predictable costs and full control, but requires your own operations. We'll transparently calculate both options for you – including staffing effort – and recommend what fits your situation. With Odoo, on-premises is an equal option, not a special path.
Are European AI models worse than US models?
For most business processes – summarizing documents, classifying emails, extracting data – European models such as Mistral deliver comparable quality. We select the model per use case and build so that you can switch at any time. You decide which data which model gets to see.
We already use Microsoft and other US tools – what does that mean for us?
No reason to worry, and no reason for a radical overhaul. You achieve sovereignty step by step: we show you where your data currently resides, what European alternative exists for each case, and where a switch brings real benefit. What works well can stay.
Can you guarantee that our data stays in Europe?
Yes – if you want that, we build your solution so that all data is processed exclusively in European data centers or on your own premises. We document transparently and traceably which systems process which data, and where.
Why do you rely on Odoo instead of Microsoft Business Central?
Odoo is a Belgian company with an open platform: source code you can inspect, on-premises possible, no vendor lock-in. Business Central is a solid product, but ties you to Microsoft's US cloud strategy. For companies where data sovereignty matters, Odoo is the more consistent choice.
What does digital sovereignty mean – in practical terms?
That you always know and decide where your data resides, who can access it, and under what conditions. In practice: European hosting or your own server, open standards instead of vendor lock-in, and the ability to export all your data.
Which European AI models do you use?
Depending on the task, models from European providers such as Mistral – run on EU infrastructure or on your own premises. Where a US model is clearly better suited technically, we say so openly and clarify the data protection question before anything runs.
What does switching away from US tools actually look like?
Step by step: we start with the system that has the greatest leverage – often CRM or automation – and run old and new in parallel during the transition. No big bang, no downtime.
Does that also apply to backups and support access?
Yes. Backups are located in Europe, support access takes place from the EU and is logged. Sovereignty doesn't end at the production environment – that's written into the contract, too.
