What's new in Odoo 20?
The central innovation of Odoo 20 is that AI is no longer a single function but an assistance layer that works along in the background across the modules. Instead of just delivering more functions, Odoo 20 aims to actively make daily work easier – that is, smarter and simpler rather than just more powerful.
AI becomes practically usable in everyday work
AI moves into areas such as accounting, website, helpdesk and even the creation and updating of records. A vivid example is „accounting for non-accountants“: An AI agent can run through treasury and financing checks, summarize noteworthy items and flag anomalies – without deep accounting knowledge being necessary. With the „AI Create/Update“ function, records can be searched, reassigned or created via natural language, for example handing over all of one salesperson's leads to another with a single instruction.
Accounting, POS and website
In accounting, payments directly from within Odoo are a practical highlight: payment batches can be sent to the bank with a signature or exported as SEPA XML. In the point of sale, hardware setup becomes significantly easier – browser-based access to local devices via Chromium makes importing certificates unnecessary, plus there are automatic combos and new payment providers. Particularly interesting for marketing and web teams: faster loading times, microdata (JSON-LD), better redirect management, corrections on SEO topics such as no-index, sitemap and canonical URLs as well as a revised blog interface.
Mobile, payroll and planning
The mobile interface is redesigned from the ground up and optimized for touch operation and small screens – a real added value for field service, warehouse and sales. Payroll gets a new dashboard with direct actions and in future dispenses with separate „work entries“, since work is done directly from the absence data. Field Service moves into a unified Planning module, and timesheets suggest time entries via an AI assistant based on actual activity.
New industry solutions
Odoo 20 brings dedicated solutions for new industries, including Hotel+ (occupancy and revenue management), construction (quotes with trades, WBS planning, progress-based billing) and recruitment. In addition, there are verticals such as car workshop, nursing home and animal care.
Odoo 19 vs. Odoo 20 – where is the difference?
While Odoo 19 mainly brought more functions, performance and UI improvements, Odoo 20 shifts the focus to simplification and automation. Put simply: Odoo 19 made the system more powerful, Odoo 20 makes it smarter and easier to use. Instead of a single „wow“ feature, a common thread runs through the entire roadmap – slim down processes, embed AI where work is done, and interlink all apps more closely.
Should SMEs upgrade now or wait?
The right time for an upgrade to Odoo 20 is not the launch day, but at the earliest the first stable patch in October or November 2026.
