Frequently Asked Questions About Odoo 20 Vertical Modules
What are the most important vertical modules in Odoo 20?
Odoo 20 brings substantially expanded vertical modules for manufacturing (MES integration), retail (Unified Commerce), healthcare and services — with AI-native workflows and improved IoT connectivity.
How do Odoo industry apps differ from standard modules?
Industry apps are preconfigured Odoo modules that cover industry-specific processes, compliance requirements and workflows — e.g. product traceability for food or MES for manufacturing.
Is an upgrade to Odoo 20 worthwhile for existing users?
Yes. Odoo 20 brings significant AI improvements, performance optimizations and new vertical features. PixelMechanics recommends a gap analysis before the upgrade to assess risk.
Odoo 20 extends the ERP platform with a whole range of new vertical modules – that is, preconfigured industry solutions that directly map the typical processes of an industry. New additions include Auto Repair Shop, Hotel+, Construction, Recruitment Firm, Pet Groomer, Nursing/Retirement Home, Custom Industrial Equipment and Community Care.
Important context: Odoo 20 has not yet been released. The official roadmap was presented in April 2026 by Luc Nailis (Product Owner at Odoo); the full presentation follows at Odoo Experience 2026 in Brussels from September 24–26, 2026. Odoo itself jokingly describes the roadmap as a "list of things we might do" – so details may still change before release.
In this article we show which vertical modules have been announced for Odoo 20, what they can specifically do and for which companies a look at the new version is already worthwhile now.
What are vertical modules in Odoo anyway?
Vertical modules are industry-specific app packages that preconfigure Odoo so that the typical processes of an industry are immediately usable without costly custom development. Instead of building an industry solution yourself from more than 80 standard apps (CRM, Sales, Inventory, Accounting, etc.), a vertical already delivers the appropriate workflows, fields, views and automations.
The advantage from our practice at PixelMechanics: implementation becomes faster, more predictable and more cost-effective. A vertical significantly reduces the "time-to-value" – that is, the time until a company actually works productively with the system – because less needs to be configured individually.
Odoo has been consistently advancing this industry strategy for several versions. With Odoo 20, the portfolio is now specifically expanded to include industries that have so far been underrepresented – from trades and hospitality to care.
Which new vertical modules are coming in Odoo 20?
According to the roadmap, Odoo 20 introduces new and revised industry solutions for at least eight areas. Here is the overview.
Auto Repair Shop
The Auto Repair Shop module is one of the most discussed new verticals. It is aimed at car workshops and service businesses that want to bundle vehicle intake, repair orders, spare parts, labor times and invoicing in one system.
For German workshops this is interesting because it allows the entire process – from appointment scheduling through the cost estimate and order approval to the invoice – to be mapped digitally end to end. The combination of inventory management (spare parts), time tracking (labor values) and accounting in one platform ideally replaces several separate isolated solutions.
Hotel+
Hotel+ is the significantly expanded industry solution for the hospitality sector. According to the roadmap, it includes occupancy management, a channel manager (Channex) for connecting to booking portals, a revenue management system, housekeeping functions and seasonal price lists.
With this, Odoo 20 addresses a classic pain point for small and medium-sized hotels: synchronizing availability and prices across multiple booking channels without expensive specialized software.
Construction
The Construction module covers the typical project lifecycle in the building industry. This includes quotes with work items and overhead costs, project planning with a work breakdown structure (WBS) and subcontractor assignment, as well as progress-driven billing.
Progress-driven billing in particular – that is, invoicing based on construction progress – is a central feature for construction companies that is often missing in standard ERPs.
Recruitment Firm
The Recruitment Firm vertical connects CRM, recruiting and billing in one end-to-end process. Staffing providers get better integration of applicant and talent data as well as a new portal view for clients and candidates.
Further new verticals in Odoo 20
In addition to the solutions mentioned above and described in more detail, the roadmap names further new industry modules:
- Custom Industrial Equipment – for manufacturers of custom industrial plants and special machinery.
- Nursing/Retirement Home – for care facilities and assisted living.
- Pet Groomer – for dog salons and pet care providers with appointment scheduling and service billing.
- Community Care – for social and community-based care and support services.
Some of these modules are still at an earlier stage of the roadmap. Which functions will ultimately be included will only become clear at release.
When will Odoo 20 be released?
Odoo 20 is expected to be officially unveiled at Odoo Experience 2026 from September 24 to 26, 2026 in Brussels. Based on experience, the final release (General Availability) takes place around this event in late summer/autumn.
For context: the currently available version is Odoo 19, released in October 2025 at Odoo Experience 2025. Odoo thus follows its annual release cycle. Until the official launch of Odoo 20, Odoo 19 remains the recommended basis for new implementations.
More than verticals: the common thread of Odoo 20
Even though the industry modules are the focus of this article, it is worth looking at the bigger picture. The Odoo 20 roadmap runs a clear common thread through nearly all apps: simplify, automate and embed AI where the work happens.
Other announced focus areas include embedded AI functions (such as "Accounting for non-CFOs" or an AI-powered website builder), a revised mobile interface, a significantly upgraded phone/communication area, improvements to POS and e-commerce, as well as tighter integration of Field Service and Planning. Particularly relevant for marketing and web teams: better SEO foundations such as structured data (JSON-LD), cleaner canonicals and a revised blog UI.
The vertical modules are therefore not an isolated feature but part of a strategy to further develop Odoo into an integrated, AI-powered business platform.
What does this mean for your company?
For industry-specific businesses, Odoo 20 can noticeably reduce the effort of an ERP implementation – provided the right vertical covers your own core processes. Our recommendation from numerous Odoo projects:
- Capture processes now, don't wait for features. The roadmap is not yet final. It makes sense to document your own core processes today so that at release you can quickly assess what a vertical covers.
- Define a pilot area. Instead of a "big bang", it is worth starting with a clearly defined area (e.g. order processing in the workshop).
- Plan the migration. Those running on an older Odoo version today should check the upgrade path early – ideally via Odoo 19 as a stable intermediate step.
As an Odoo partner, PixelMechanics accompanies companies from process analysis through the selection of the right vertical module to implementation and training. This makes it possible to realize the added value of the new industry apps quickly and with low risk.
